Join us on May 26, 2024, at 10:00 AM for a message from L. Shay Bradham called "Deeds Not Creeds: What Does It Really Mean to Be a Unitarian Universalist?" As a UU congregation, we don't require that you believe a certain way, as do other religions. We have members of all faiths (and also those who don't believe in a deity at all). We respect each other's unique spiritual journeys and support each other in our diverse paths. Instead of creed or doctrine, we are guided by covenant, which means we have an agreement on how we will treat each other. We encourage each other to become our best selves. We are open and honest with each other. What does this mean for us as individuals and also how we support our community? We invite you to come and learn more! You can visit us in person, or you can use our contact form and request the Zoom link.

At First Church UU in Leominster, MA, we are thrilled to share the story of our pollinator garden, a vibrant and meaningful addition to our community. Initiated in 2023 by our dedicated Lay Minister, Stephanie Trudel, this garden is a testament to our commitment to the environment and our 7th principle, which calls for respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part. The project began with the support of the Rotary Club, who generously donated the plants, and The Preville Group, led by Nick Preville, who helped grade the area and clear the overgrown remnants of our former meditative labyrinth. This collaborative effort transformed an unused space into a thriving habitat for pollinators, right in the heart of downtown Leominster. What is a Pollinator Garden? A pollinator garden is specifically designed to attract and support pollinators such as bees, butterflies, birds, and other beneficial insects. These gardens are filled with a variety of native plants that provide nectar, pollen, and habitat for these essential creatures. Pollinators play a crucial role in the ecosystem, aiding in the reproduction of flowering plants and contributing to the production of fruits and vegetables. Benefits of Pollinator Gardens: 1. Biodiversity: Pollinator gardens support a wide range of plant and animal species, fostering biodiversity. 2. Ecosystem Health: By providing a habitat for pollinators, these gardens help maintain healthy ecosystems. 3. Food Production: Pollinators are vital for the production of many crops that humans rely on for food. 4. Environmental Education: Pollinator gardens serve as living classrooms where people can learn about the importance of pollinators and conservation efforts. A Tribute to Members Who Have Passed On In addition to supporting pollinators, our garden will feature tiny, subtle memorials for members of our congregation who have passed away. These memorials will be thoughtfully integrated into the landscape, honoring the memory of our loved ones in a space dedicated to life and renewal. We Will Be Dedicating Our Pollinator Garden Soon Later this year, we will dedicate the garden and install a beautiful bench made from reclaimed wood by Stephanie's father-in-law. This bench will provide a peaceful spot for reflection and enjoyment of the garden's beauty. Our pollinator garden is more than just a collection of plants; it is a symbol of our commitment to the environment and our community. We invite you to visit and experience the beauty and tranquility of this special place, and to join us in celebrating the interconnectedness of all life. Visit Us and See Our Pollinator Garden for Yourself! Stop by First Church UU in Leominster, MA, to see our pollinator garden in person.
