Celebrate Pride with First Church UU of Leominster – June 7, 2026

On Sunday, June 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM, First Church UU of Leominster warmly invites you to join us for a special Pride Service celebrating the beauty, strength, and diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community.

This uplifting and affirming service will center love, inclusion, and belonging, with a particular focus on supporting and uplifting our transgender siblings. Together, we will honor the courage it takes to live authentically, reflect on the power of community, and celebrate the sacred worth of every individual.

At First Church, we believe that everyone deserves to be seen, valued, and embraced exactly as they are. This service is an opportunity not only to celebrate Pride, but to stand in solidarity, deepen our understanding, and reaffirm our commitment to justice, compassion, and equality for all.

Following the service, all are invited to stay for a joyful Rainbow Brunch Potluck — a time to connect, share stories, and build community in a relaxed and welcoming space. Whether you come on your own or with friends and family, you’ll find open hearts and friendly faces.

No matter where you are on your journey, you are welcome here.
We hope you’ll join us for this meaningful and celebratory morning.

Unitarian Universalists and Social Justice: Living OUR Values Every Day

Unitarian Universalists (UUs) are passionate about making the world a better, fairer place. Their commitment to social justice isn’t just a belief—it’s a way of life. Guided by principles like justice, equity, and compassion, UUs work tirelessly to create a world where everyone can thrive. But what does that look like in action? Let’s dive in.

What Drives UU Social Justice Work?

At the core of UU values are a few guiding principles that fuel our efforts:
  1. Every Person Matters: UUs believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every person, which means standing up against discrimination and oppression.
  2. Fairness and Kindness: Justice, equity, and compassion are more than ideals—they’re daily practices.
  3. We’re All Connected: The belief in the interconnected web of life inspires UUs to protect the planet and care for one another.
  4. The Power of Democracy: UUs value everyone’s voice and work to create systems where participation matters.
These principles don’t just sit on a shelf—they’re active, living commitments that drive UUs to make meaningful change.

The Causes UUs Care About

If there’s a social issue that needs addressing, chances are UUs are involved. Here are just a few of the areas where we focus our energy:
  • Racial Justice: From supporting movements like Black Lives Matter to hosting conversations about systemic racism, UUs are deeply involved in dismantling inequality.
  • LGBTQ+ Rights: UUs have long been allies, advocating for marriage equality, transgender rights, and inclusive policies.
  • Environmental Justice: Protecting the planet isn’t optional—it’s a responsibility. UUs are at the forefront of sustainability efforts and climate action.
  • Economic Justice: Whether it’s organizing food drives or advocating for living wages, UUs care deeply about addressing poverty and inequality.
  • Immigrant and Refugee Rights: Providing sanctuary and pushing for compassionate immigration policies are just some of the ways UUs support vulnerable populations.
  • Reproductive Justice: UUs stand firmly for the right to make decisions about one’s own body, advocating for access to reproductive healthcare.
  • Peace and Nonviolence: UUs believe in resolving conflicts peacefully and seek alternatives to violence in all its forms.

How UUs Take Action

UUs don’t just talk the talk—we walk the walk. Their social justice work happens on many levels:
  • Global Impact: The UU Service Committee (UUSC) works internationally to support human rights and fight for justice, focusing on issues like refugee support and access to clean water.
  • Local Efforts: Many UU congregations organize community programs like food pantries, educational workshops, and partnerships with local organizations. (We have a Community Meal and Food Pantry here in Leominster.)
  • National Advocacy: Campaigns like Standing on the Side of Love amplify UU voices in the fight for inclusion and equality.
And it’s not just about organized programs—individual UUs live their values every day, finding small but impactful ways to contribute.

Social Justice in Worship and Beyond

Social justice isn’t just an “extra” for UUs—it’s woven into the fabric of our worship, education, and community life. Many UU services focus on social issues, offering both inspiration and practical tools for action. Educational programs dive deeper, helping people learn how to turn their values into meaningful change.

A Legacy of Justice

UUs have been changemakers for centuries. Think of abolitionists like Frances Ellen Watkins Harper or suffragists like Susan B. Anthony. Their work continues today in movements for racial justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and environmental sustainability. The thread that ties it all together? A commitment to equity and compassion.

Making the World a Better Place, Together

Unitarian Universalists believe that a better world is possible—and we’re ready to help create it. Whether through local community projects, global advocacy, or personal acts of kindness, UUs work to live our values every day.

If you’re inspired by the idea of combining compassion with action, consider joining us! Together, we can build a more just, compassionate, and connected world.
